Ask a question
- Open Ask your documents in the sidebar.
- Choose the scope.
- All documents: everything indexed
- Choose project: only one project's documents (Pro)
- Choose documents: only inside the documents you pick
- Type your question and press Enter. Press Shift+Enter for a new line.
Reading the answer
- Source documents appear next to the answer, down to the page, sheet or slide. Select one to open that spot.
- Source documents lists only the documents the answer actually used. Documents the search matched but the answer didn't use are folded below under other documents found.
- Each answer shows how well it is supported: well supported / partly supported / not found in indexed documents.
- When support is missing, the AI says it couldn't find it instead of making something up. For anything important, check the source document too.
Search more
When the answer is spread across many documents — "find cases where we kept a customer from leaving", "find the interview questions in the interview review files" — one pass may not find everything. Then the AI asks under its answer whether to search more. For example: "There are 45 interview review files and I checked only 12. Search the rest too?"
- Select Search more and the AI searches the same question again, up to 10 times. It tries other words, narrows the search to file and folder names, and reads the documents it finds all the way through.
- It takes longer and uses several times more AI quota than a regular question.
- It asks even when it found something, if it hasn't looked at everything yet. Quick search works the same way in AI question mode.
Follow-up questions
- Keep typing in the same conversation to build on earlier answers.
- Select "New chat" to start over.
- Reopen, rename or delete past questions in the history. Set how long history is kept in Settings › AI › Question history.
Examples of good questions
- "What are the termination conditions in Company A's maintenance contract?" — be clear about the subject and what you want
- "Which item had the highest unit price in quotes from the second half of 2025?" — include a period and a criterion
- "Show the scope differences between this proposal and last year's, as a table" — say what format you want
If you can't use it
